Over the Weekend: Sept. 9-11, 2011
Friday
This weekend marked the annual tradition of the Iowa vs. Iowa State football game: the battle for the Cy-Hawk trophy. In conjunction of this event, our company holds a tailgate party on Friday afternoon. Employees decked out in their favorite team garb gather for an afternoon of fellowship, lawn games and refreshments. This year we also had a kickball game. Kels' and my team won! Here's the view from center field:
When we got home we chilled, did laundry and watched the NBC two-hour 9/11 special before heading to bed.
Saturday
Game day! We went to our friends' Tommy and Missy's for the game. They made chili and everyone else brought side dishes to enjoy.
It was a great afternoon with friends, besides the outcome of the game. ISU pulled out the victory in the third overtime. As a Hawkeye fan, I was sad. Kels is a ISU fan, so she was happy. My hat goes off to ISU; they played a great game and deserved to win. The Hawks simply forgot their A-game at home. There were some technical difficulties during the game and they went to audio only for a while. It was tough to hear what was going on, so some of the guys huddled close:
Kels and I both have vintage T-shirts for our respective teams (the sunglasses were masking the tears in my eyes).
After the game we ran some errands and went to church, followed by a quiet evening at home watching a documentary and turning off the lights before 9 p.m.
Sunday
Kels helped a friend work a bridal show and I watched some football with my buddy Jeremy. We are going head-to-head for week 1 in our fantasy league. As of this writing I am down 21 points. Yikes!
After dinner at On the Border, we planned our meals and grabbed some groceries for the week. Kels with her treasures:
And then, a ride through the car wash with some treats. Cheaper than a movie at the theater!
We went home, got in bed at 7 p.m. and watched another 9/11 documentary. Hoping you have been able to reflect on what happened 10 years ago as well.
What did you do this weekend?
