Over the Weekend: July 8-10, 2011
Friday
After work we made a quick pickup for Papa Leo at Hank's and hit the road, I-35 North to Lake Mills.
Jon Acuff kept us company with the second half of his audio book Quitter. It's been on hiatus for awhile, but we finally put it back in the CD player.
We went with Kelsey's family to Pizza Ranch for supper and I enjoyed a new favorite, Sweet Chili Pizza. Two words: Yum Yum. I couldn't get Kelsey to try it, though. Sad face.
We then hit the town for their annual July Jubilee festival. They have a street dance every year and it's a great way to catch up with everyone. Kelsey's extended family is usually in town and we saw some of her cousins and were able to catch up.
Saturday
Started off with a bang: a 5K at 7:30 in the a.m. Kelsey walked with her cousin Jessica and I ran it. I was not too sure how it would go since I haven't trained at all. I paced myself pretty good and was able to run the whole thing. No lightning fast time, but I was proud of myself.
We showered up and then headed out to take some maternity photos of Jessica (from above). Kelsey and I make a good team. I sat behind the camera for the technical aspect, and Kelsey played the role of the creative director. Let us know if you would like to book a shoot!!

Then we were off to the parade. Nothing spectacular, except they had a camel and zebra that were pretty cute walking in the parade. Kelsey's nana loves zebras and lit up like a firework when she saw it coming around the corner.
We enjoyed lunch from Gudmonson's pork loin sandwich at a pop-up shop on Mill Street, another annual tradition. A new law in Lake Mills allows the locals to drive around town on their golf carts. Naturally, this is the only way Myah and Maysen want to travel now.
A nice walk across town to the park for more festivities led us to our friend Joa (designer of Snappy Casual) and her husband, Andy. Remember our Midweek Dinner Party? And how Joey and I were talking bikes? Joey told me about a bike shop in Minneapolis that might have what we are looking for. Oh, yeah, and Andy is super into bikes and is a pretty good mechanic, and happens to live close to said bike shop in Minneapolis! We are now trying to plan a weekend to get up there to look at bikes. Super excited!

Then it was nap time. For us, too. The hot summer sun had zapped the energy out of us, and the only perscription was a mid-afternoon siesta.
Around 5, we headed to our friend Jill's parent's house. They were having about half the town over for a backyard party. They have a spectacular home and a huge backyard. Jill's husband even DJ'd the gig. We had a super fun evening and got to catch up with a lot of Kelsey's high school friends.
Sunday
We slept in a bit (8:30) and by 11 were headed out the door for Clear Lake. We ate lunch at Bennigan's. The twins had some fun playing with Aunt Kiki's sunglasses. They are picking up on her fashion trends, too, as they wore their glow rings from the street dance around their waists as skinny belts.
After lunch we headed for a pit stop in Belmond to pick up an old road bike from my mom. I'm not exactly sure what I am going to do with it, but I might see if the tires fit on my mountain bike. We then drove for home.
We unpacked quickly and headed for church followed by life group. Not sure why we decided to have a fire when it was 95 degrees, but I guess it's pretty hard to say no to s'mores! A perfect ending to an awesome weekend.
